Utd to sign Ronaldo? City pull out!

English Premier League

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seemingly opened the door to Cristiano Ronaldo if he wants to return to the Premier League side, while Manchester City have now reportedly walked away.

The Portuguese forward was rumoured to be set to join City after he informed Juventus of his intention to leave the Italian club.

However, it now appears that the Red Devils are ready to tempt the five-time Ballon d'Or winner into a return to his former club.

In a press conference ahead of United's clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers on the weekend, Solskjaer seemingly opened the door for a Ronaldo return to Old Trafford.

"Any manager is always looking for a little bit more – I am happy with the numbers we have, quality we have, it is really good. The staff with them fit each other really well," the 48-year-old said at the presser, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

"Cristiano is a legend of this club, the greatest player of all time if you ask me. I was fortunate enough to play with him. I coached him when I got my job. Let's see what happens.

"We've always had a good communication. Bruno [Fernandes] has been talking to him as well and he knows what we feel about him.

"And if he was ever going to move away from Juventus, he knows we're here.

"Let's see, everyone who has played with him [Ronaldo] has a soft spot for him."

Per Romano, United have been in direct contact with Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes since Thursday evening.

City have since reportedly pulled out of the race to sign Ronaldo, per Romano, while United are now "confident" of securing the ex-Real Madrid star's signature.
