Man Utd attempting to 'hijack' transfer

English Premier League

Manchester United have reportedly launched a last-gasp bid to hijack another club's move for a Dutch star.

The Red Devils have been widely linked with defensive reinforcements after conceding the most goals among the seven highest-placed teams in the Premier League in the 2021/22 season.

Recent reports had suggested that Ajax Amsterdam left-back Nicolas Tagliafico was being considered by United after they had seemingly missed out on Feyenoord fullback Tyrell Malacia.

It was claimed Olympique Lyon had agreed terms with the Eredivisie club and the Netherlands international ahead of a proposed move said to be worth €13.9 million (R235 million).

According to Manchester Evening News, however, United have now stepped in at the 11th hour in an attempt to persuade Malacia to make the switch to Old Trafford instead.

It is reported that a verbal agreement has already been reached between the two clubs for a fee in the region of €15 million (R252 million), plus €2 million (R33 million) in add-ons.

The 22-year-old and long-time Red Devils target Frenkie de Jong are both represented by the same agent, Ali Dursun, who will now negotiate personal terms after a proposal was sent by United.

Feyenoord director Frank Arnesen has shed light on the situation as it stands.

"The agreement with Man United is there," he told 1908NL, per The Athletic.

"We are now waiting for Tyrell.

"If Malacia says yes, then a transfer to Manchester United is imminent."
