Manchester United have set their sights on £43m-rated midfielder Bruno Fernandes who has directly contributed to 48 goals this season - according to reports in England.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified the Portuguese midfielder as a replacement for Ander Herrera, who looks set to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
The 24-year-old has attracted interest from Europe’s elite this season, scoring 31 goals and providing 17 assists in 50 games in a remarkable 2018/19 campaign for Sporting Lisbon.
According to Goal, the Red Devils are hoping the lure of first team football would prove pivotal in convincing Fernandes to move to Old Trafford but their cross-town rivals Manchester City have also opened talks with his representatives.
While Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans is another reported target for United, the goal-scoring Fernandes is said to be their main priority.
Meanwhile the Record states the Citizens will allow Ilkay Gundogan to depart in the off-season if they secure the signature of the Portugal international.
