City without six stars for Brighton clash

English Premier League

Manchester City will have to do without the services of six players for Wednesday's clash against Brighton & Hove Albion, including star striker Sergio Aguero.

Winless in their last eight Premier League matches, relegation-threatened Brighton travel to the Etihad Stadium with the added pressure of having never beaten the Citizens at their home ground, but they could draw inspiration from the fact that Pep Guardiola's side will be missing a number of key players for Wednesday's encounter

The title-contenders will be without the defensive trio of Aymeric Laporte, Eric Garcia and Nathan Ake, while record-goalscorer Aguero has been forced to self-isolate alongside youngsters Adrian Bernabe and Cole Palmer. Raheem Sterling and Ferran Torres have been cleared to play after missing the weekend's match against Birmingham City.

On the opposing front, Graham Potter's Seagulls are facing an injury crisis of their own with Alireza Jahanbakhsh doubtful after picking up a knock in the FA Cup tie against Newport County over the weekend. The likes of Adam Lallana, Danny Welbeck, Tariq Lamptey, and Aaron Connolly are also absent through injury or illness and star midfielder Yves Bissouma is suspended.

Brighton will, however, be able to call on the services of Percy Tau who made his debut for the club during Sunday's victory over Newport after recently being recalled from his loan spell at Anderlecht. The Bafana Bafana star is in line to make his maiden appearance in the Premier League and will become only the 15th South African player to feature in the competition if he takes to the pitch.
