Manchester City are reportedly planning to trigger a £25 million buyback clause to re-sign Brazil midfielder Douglas Luiz.
Luiz joined City from Vasco da Gama in 2017, but was loaned out to LaLiga side Girona for the 2018/19 campaign after failing to secure a UK work permit, much to the consternation of manager Pep Guardiola.
He was then given permission to play in England last season, and City allowed him to join Aston Villa in a bid to aid his development, and he played a starring role as the Birmingham-based club narrowly avoided relegation.
Now, according to Globo Esporte, Guardiola is looking to re-sign the Brazil international and is considering activating a reported £25 million (R572 million) buyback clause that was inserted into his deal at the time of his sale.
It is reported that the Spaniard sees Luiz as a ready-made replacement for fellow Selecao midfielder Fernandinho, who recently turned 35 and whose contract expires at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
Luiz would be City's third signing ahead of the upcoming Premier League season, with the club having already recruited Nathan Ake and Ferran Torres from AFC Bournemouth and Valencia, respectively.
