City to offer Barca 4 players for star?

English Premier League

Manchester City are reportedly ready to offer FC Barcelona one of four players, including Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez, in an attempt to sign Antoine Griezmann.

City are believed to be preparing a swap for Griezmann after a similar deal involving Atletico Madrid's Saul Niguez seemingly fell apart, with the two LaLiga sides unable to come to an agreement in their transfer negotiations.

According to Fussball Transfers, Pep Guardiola is ready to part ways with one of Sterling, Mahrez, Bernardo Silva or Aymeric Laporte in a swap deal that would see the French forward move to the Etihad.

The former Real Sociedad striker is reportedly seen as an ideal replacement for Sergio Aguero, who rejected a contract extension at City in order to complete a free transfer to Barcelona this month.

Griezmann has spent the past two campaigns with the LaLiga giants, finding the back of the net 35 times and providing a further 17 assists in 99 appearances for the Catalan club to date.

However, with the Blaugrana in dire financial straits, they are keen to get the France star's wages off their accounts – it has been reported that they need to reduce their wages by as much as €200 million (R3.4 billion) before they can register their new signings, and Lionel Messi on a new deal, for LaLiga action.

If this deal is to progress, though, Griezmann will likely have to accept a dramatically reduced salary. He is on just under £600 000 (R10.3 million) a week at Barca, according to salary sport, while playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, who is currently the Citizens' highest-paid player, is said to be on £350 000 (R7.2 million) weekly.
