Pep 'green lights' Aguero's Chelsea move

English Premier League

Pep Guardiola has opened the door for outbound striker Sergio Aguero to join one of the club's Premier League rivals.

Aguero, who is City's all-time record goalscorer with 257 goals across all competitions, will see his decade-long affiliation with the club draw to a close when his contract at the Etihad Stadium expires at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old has since emerged as a transfer target for fellow English top-flight side Chelsea, who were previously reported to be in the market for a new striker due to Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner's struggles in front of goal.

Guardiola has revealed that he will not stand in Aguero's way if the Argentine international wishes to join a Premier League rival, opening the door for a potential move to Stamford Bridge for the former Atletico Madrid star.

"All of us wish the best for him,' said Guardiola, per the Daily Mail. "We'll be delighted with the decision he takes, the best for him and his family, to find the best for Sergio for the last years of his career. My preference is his preference. His preference is my preference. The best for him is the best for us."
