Man Utd urged to sign Juve outcast

English Premier League

A former Manchester United star has urged the Red Devils to sign Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic to improve their scoring problems.

The Red Devils have endured a poor start to the Premier League campaign, having only secured two wins from their opening eight games this season.

Following the departure of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez (loan), Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial remain the club's only senior strikers, although the latter is currently out injured.

Two-time Premier League winner Dimitar Berbatov believes signing Mandzukic could greatly benefit Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season.

"When you sell two of your main strikers you need to bring in at least one, just in case," he told Betfair .

"Everybody can see that that Manchester United need a back up, Anthony Martial is injured and there isn't another really strong proven goalscorer.

"They have the talent in the young players but at the same time you need someone like Mario Mandzukic.

"I think he is a really good football player and he hasn't played before in England but I hope if he comes he can straight away get into the rhythm of the Premier League."
