Liverpool 'interested' in African starlet

English Premier League

Liverpool reportedly sent scouts to watch one of Mohamed Salah's opponents during Egypt's recent 1-0 win over Guinea with a view to a potential transfer.

The Reds have already announced the signing of Fabio Carvalho from Fulham ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, while Darwin Nunez and Calvin Ramsay both look set to secure moves to Anfield too.

It appears Jurgen Klopp's side are now ready to step up their pursuit of a potential fourth signing.

Earlier in June, Salah and Naby Keita's respective home countries clashed in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, with Egypt manager Ehab Galal securing his first win in his debut match in charge of the Pharaohs.

According to L'Equipe, it is Keita's national teammate Saidou Sow who has caught the attention of Liverpool's scouts after getting a recommendation from the central midfielder to observe the youngster.

Despite being tipped for a bright future, the 19-year-old centre-back was scarcely used by Saint-Etienne boss Pascal Dupraz during the second half of the 2021/22 campaign as the club fought, and failed, to avoid relegation to France's Ligue 2.

However, the defender is already a regular for Guinea's senior national side, and is getting some much-needed first-team action in this international break.

While Liverpool are in no rush to sign a starting centre-back with Virgil van Dyk, Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip all excelling last season, the Reds appear to be looking to sign talented young players for the future, and it seems Sow could fit the bill.
