Former Manchester City and England defender Joleon Lescott has backed Percy Tau to "surprise a few people" following the Bafana Bafana star's impressive Premier League debut earlier this week.
After making his debut in the FA Cup last weekend, Tau made his first appearance in England's top-flight on Wednesday evening when he started in Brighton & Hove Albion's narrow 1-0 defeat to Pep Guardiola's title-contenders.
Following the match, former footballer-turned-pundit Lescott was quick to single the former Mamelodi Sundowns star out for praise and shared his view that he would cause a lot of trouble for the league's defenders this season.
"He's not going to be judged on tonight [Wednesday] but there was a lot of commitment," the former England international told BT Sport h/t Brighton & Hove Independent. "He's obviously pleased to be back in the Brighton building and contribute.

"I think what you can look at tonight is how reliable he was. I think he'll surprise a few players before the end of the season with his pace and his directness. I'm pleased for him. It's never easy to go to a new club after being out of loan but now I'm sure he's eager to impress."
Tau featured for 68 minutes of the encounter before being substituted off, with Seagulls boss Graham Potter keeping an eye on the weekend's clash against Leeds United, and Lescott believes that the 26-year-old can draw a lot of pride from his performance.
"If you looked at it, you wouldn't say that is his debut," the two-time Premier League winner added. "He's obviously played a number of games in Europe but facing a team like Man City, he wouldn't have done that before but he didn't hide away from it.
"He stuck to his responsibilities, whether that was in or out of possession. He can take a lot of pride from tonight, albeit he would have liked more opportunities in the final third and possession. But overall, it was a good performance from him."
