Carragher 'sick' of Liverpool's excuses

English Premier League

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says he is sick of the Reds using injuries as an excuse after their poor run in the Premier League.

The Reds suffered a fourth straight defeat at Anfield after going down 2-0 to fierce rivals Everton on Saturday evening.

Virgil Van Dijk is not expected to return this season after tearing his ACL against the Toffees earlier in the campaign, but Carragher feels the Dutchman's absence should not be an excuse whenever the team does not do well.

"Liverpool have been so poor, they have got everything deserved,” the former Reds star was quoted as saying by the Mirror. "They can't keep saying 'Virgil van Dijk is out'. I'm sick of saying it myself.

"Going forward is as big a problem as what we're seeing defensively from Liverpool now. I know Liverpool have dominated possession but it doesn't mean anything if you don't create. And that is a big problem for this Liverpool team.

"Very rarely do you see Liverpool play now when you expect them to score."

The defeat to Carlo Ancelotti's side has seen Jurgen Klopp's men slip to sixth spot, five points adrift of fourth-placed West Ham United.
