A former Manchester United star has explained how Cristiano Ronaldo persuaded him and another player to join the Red Devils ahead of Arsenal.
The Portuguese forward earned his stripes during his first stint at United, where he made the journey from being a precocious teenager to becoming a Ballon d'Or winner.
With Ronaldo growing in prominence, Sir Alex Ferguson seemingly deployed the forward to help secure the signings of twins Rafael and Fabio da Silva in 2008, with Arsenal understood to also be trying to land their signatures.

This is according to Rafael, who recently revealed that he received a call from the Portugal star at the time in a bid to convince the duo to join the Red Devils.
"He called my phone, and I'll never forget that," the Botafogo fullback the UTD Podcast, per United's official website.
"My phone had all the zeros [on the screen, to indicate an international call] and I was saying 'Who is this? I've never received a call like this.' I answered, and I knew him because I'd trained with him before [during trials at United].
"He just said: 'Ah, [Portuguese greeting]!' I ran to my bus saying: 'It's Ronaldo, it's Ronaldo! He's calling us to speak!'
"He just said: 'It's raining here, it's raining here in Manchester, like you know.' He said: 'I call to say to you guys: sign for Manchester United. I know you are going to like it,' et cetera.
"I could not believe [it]. It was amazing."
Ronaldo seemingly made quite an impression on the pair during their time together at Old Trafford, with Fabio having previously explained how the foward helped both him and his brother with the language barrier and confidence issues in the beginning of their spell in Manchester.
