Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers settled for a 1-1 draw in the Premier League, with Paul Pogba missing a penalty for the Red Devils in the second half.
After scoring on debut from the bench in the 4-0 rout of Chelsea, the Red Devils handed Daniel James a start, seeking to end their Molineux hoodoo in the process.
From a passive opening, United broke the deadlock on 27 minutes when Anthony Martial ran behind the defence to blast beyond Rui Patricio from Marcus Rashford’s through pass.
Wolves looked far from promising, whilst United pushed for a second towards the break but Rashford failed to profit, allowing Patricio to collect comfortably.
A disjointed first half forced Nuno Esporito Santo to change tact at the break, as Adama Traore replaced Matt Doherty.
This switch proved a success as Traore caused havoc down the right, whilst Raul Jimenez headed against the inside post 54 minutes in from Joao Moutinho’s free-kick. Moments later, Ruben Neves brought the crowd to life with a top-drawer finish two minutes later, needing the Video Assistant Review’s stamp of approval.
Paul Pogba had the chance to put United back in front from the spot on 66 minutes after being brought down inside the area; however the Frenchman failed to beat Patricio from 12-yards out.
The visitors looked to the bench in the final ten minutes and introduced Juan Mata with Jesse Lingard removed, while Mason Greenwood and Andreas Pereira came on minutes later.
In the end, neither side could find a winning goal as the Red Devils missed the chance to move top of the league standings.
