West Ham United manager David Moyes has explained why the club did not re-sign Jesse Lingard in the recent transfer window.
Lingard spent the second half of last season on loan at the Hammers, where he registered an impressive nine goals in 16 appearances.
The England international was tipped to return to the London outfit this season, especially with Bruno Fernandes preferred in the number 10 role.
Moyes has revealed that Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was quite clear about his position on Lingard at the start of the transfer window.
"Ole made it clear to me quite early in the transfer window that he wanted to keep him," the Scot stated via Eurosport .
"I knew pretty early in the transfer window that he was staying at Manchester United."
Lingard was on target United's 4-1 win over Newcastle United last weekend and recently bagged a brace on international duty with England in a FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The Hammers play hosts to Solskjaer's at the Olympic Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with both sides looking to extend their unbeaten records in the Premier League.
