Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has bid a heartfelt farewell to his now-departed manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

While some reports in recent weeks have suggested that there was mistrust on the part of Ronaldo towards Solskjaer, the Portuguese striker's goodbye message to the Norwegian boss appears to show a healthy respect between them.

The 48-year-old manager officially parted ways with the club on Sunday following a disappointing run of five losses in their past seven Premier League matches.

Solskjaer faced a significant amount of pressure from pundits and fans alike as a result, and it was even claimed that Ronaldo had recommended the appointment of his former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane to replace the then-Red Devils head coach.

However, with Solskjaer having now left United, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has taken to social media to bid a heartfelt farewell to the ex-Cardiff manager.

"He's been my striker when I first came to Old Trafford and he's been my coach since I came back to Manchester United," Ronaldo wrote on Instagram.

"But, most of all, Ole is an outstanding human being. I wish him the best in whatever his life has reserved for him.

"Good luck, my friend! You deserve it!"
