Uruguay run riot over Ecuador

Uruguay got their Copa America campaign off to a flying start after thumping Ecuador 4-0 at the Estádio Governador Magalhães Pinto.

Oscar Tabarez's made their intentions known from the onset after Nicolas Lodeiro opened the scoring after just six minutes with a fine individual effort.

Ecuador's hopes finding a way back in to the contest suffered a blow after Jose Quinteros received his marching orders for a poor challenge in the 24th minute.

The Sky Blues continued to dominated and doubled their advantage after 33 minutes through Edinson Cavani's acrobatic finish from close-range.

Luis Suarez, who set up the opening goal, extended Uruguay's lead just before the interval after turning home a flick-on from Martin Carceres at the far post.

With the 15-time winners comfortably leading and a man up, the second half did not provide the same amount of entertainment although their fourth goal did arrive with 12 minutes to go as Arturo Mina sent the ball into his own net.
