Brighton & Hove Albion boss Graham Potter has lauded the performance of Percy Tau following the Bafana Bafana star's Premier League debut against Manchester City on Wednesday.
After making his first appearance for the Seagulls from the bench in Sunday's FA Cup third-round win over Newport County, Tau was named in the starting XI for the club's clash against title-chasing Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Potter's side ultimately suffered a 1-0 defeat courtesy of a first-half goal from England international Phil Foden but the result was not for a lack of effort from Tau and strike partner Leandro Trossard, who were both singled out for praise by their manager after the match.
"It is a difficult game for him [Tau] to start for a forward because they make you defend as a team. So that takes away a little bit of his attacking qualities, along with Leo [Trossard]," the former Östersund and Swansea City boss said.
"They both work so hard for the team, they work so hard and were fantastic in that regard. They grew and grew. He [Tau] has only been with us for a week, we have to make sure he is available for the coming games, good first game, he will get better and he will get a better understanding with us."
Following Wednesday's defeat, Brighton are now just two points above the relegation zone and face tricky encounters against Leeds United and Fulham in their next two league fixtures, either side of an FA Cup clash against Blackpool.
