BVB 'set R1.6bn fee' for Chelsea target

English Premier League

Borussia Dortmund's price tag for England star Jude Bellingham has reportedly been revealed, with Chelsea seemingly emerging as frontrunners to secure the midfielder's signature.

The English teenager signed for BVB from Birmingham City in 2020 when he was just 17 years old, and impressed so much with his performances in the Bundesliga that he earned a spot in his nation's 2020 UEFA European Championship squad.

However, it appears that the 18-year-old could be on his way to Stamford Bridge in 2022, with German news outlet Bild reporting that Chelsea are the leading the race to sign him amid competition from Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City.

It is further claimed that while the Bundesliga giants are not looking to sell a player they consider to be one of their prized assets, they are willing to part ways with him if a €100 million (R1.6 billion) offer was put on the table.

The Blues' search for a midfielder has been well-documented after they were widely linked with a move for West Ham United's Declan Rice, before they acquired the services of Saul Niguez on a loan deal from Atletico Madrid on the last day of the recent transfer window.

The Spanish star made his debut for Chelsea against Aston Villa on Sunday, but found himself being taken off just 45 minutes into the match.

"He (Saul) struggled a bit with ball losses and created some half chances, chances for Aston Villa, I thought better to change him," manager Thomas Tuchel said in a post-match interview, per the Daily Mirror.
