Just over a year after joining LaLiga giants FC Barcelona, France superstar Antoine Griezmann has been linked with a shock exit to Manchester United.
Following a protracted transfer saga between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, Griezmann joined the Catalan side for a transfer fee of €120 million (R2.3 billion) at the beginning of last season, but failed to live up to his hefty price tag after managing 15 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions for the campaign.
The 29-year-old, who signed a five-year deal with Barca, has been regularly linked with a premature exit as a result of his on-field struggles, and could now be making a move to the Premier League, if reports are to be believed.
According to The Guardian, Griezmann's position at the Camp Nou is under fire due to the club's pursuit of Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, and Barcelona could look to offload the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner in order to lower their wage budget and finance a deal for the Argentine replacement.
It is claimed further that Premier League giants Manchester United have been placed on "red alert" by the latest developments surrounding the former Real Sociedad star's future, having previously been linked with a move for his signature in 2017.
While there is no deal in place, it is said the Red Devils would be willing to offer Griezmann a contract worth £280 000 (R5.5 million) a week in order to lure him to Old Trafford, where he would team up with compatriots Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba.
