Martial hits back at Man Utd boss

English Premier League

Manchester United star Anthony Martial has hit back at interim manager Ralf Rangnick's claim that he refused to be part of the squad for their clash against Aston Villa on the weekend.

With Martial having already made it clear he wants to leave Old Trafford in the current transfer window, Rangnick omitted the Frenchman from his squad for the team's trip to Villa on Saturday.

The two sides played out to a 2-2 draw at Villa Park as United squandered a two-goal lead, with Jacob Ramsey and new loan signing Philippe Coutinho ensuring that the game ended in a stalemate.

One of the big talking points after the match came when Rangnick seemingly revealed the reason behind Martial's absence from the travelling squad.

"He didn't want to be in the squad," the German tactician said in a post-match interview.

"He would have been in the squad normally but he didn't want to and that was the reason why he didn't travel with us yesterday."

Seemingly taken aback by his manager's claim, Martial has since taken to social media to emphatically deny his coach's statement about his absence.

"I will never refuse to play a match for Man United," the Frenchman wrote on Instagram.

"I've been here for seven years and I never disrespected and never will disrespect the club and the fans."

Here are three managers who have reportedly been shortlisted to replace Rangnick at United at the end of the season
