Brilliant Bucs thump Kaloum

It completes a 6-1 aggregate win for the Buccaneers following their 2-0 victory in Mali a fortnight ago.

Pirates were well worth the win, with their play in the second half especially a joy to watch.

They started well, dominating possession and territory, and took the lead on 22 minutes through Kermit Erasmus.

Kaloum keeper Toure rushed out to intercept a through-ball, but was beaten to it by Thamsanqa Gabuza, who passed to Erasmus to slot into the empty net.

Kaloum almost hit back on 36 minutes when striker Camara burst through the middle and into the box, but he rushed his shot and sliced it wide with just Brighton Mhlongo to beat.

Erasmus should have killed the game as a contest in the 42nd minute when he found space eight yards out, but he headed Thabo Matlaba's pinpoint cross wide.

Thabo Rakhale came even closer on the stroke of half-time, hitting the upright from a tight angle after more good play by Erasmus.

Kaloum looked to throw the proverbial cat amongst the pigeons straight after the restart when they scored through Camara, who headed a corner-kick into the far-post.

But Pirates hit back straight away and started turning on the style, with Thabo Rakhale almost restoring the lead with a sensational first-time volley.

The goal did come soon enough, on 53 minutes, and it was a deserved one for Gabuza, who pounced from close-range after some great work from Erasmus.

And the striker had a second soon after, on 59 minutes. It was Sifiso Myeni with the assist this time, flicking the ball over the defence for Gabuza to run onto and score, though replays suggested he was well offside.

The best was yet to come though. On 76 minutes Pirates scored one of their finest goals as Oupa Manyisa opened up the defence with an outside-of-the-boot through-ball, before Myeni buried it first time on the half-volley.

There could have been many more goals for Pirates, with Thabo Qalinge missing from right in front late on, but by then the home side had done enough to secure a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages.
