Sundowns were beaten in the quarterfinals last year by eventual champions Wydad Casablanca, a side Pitso Mosimane’s men will face in Pretoria on Saturday as the group stages begin.
The Brazilians are hoping to repeat the feats of 2016, when they won the Champions League title just a few months after winning the domestic crown.
Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana is hoping they can continue where they left off in the league, when they group stage campaign begins this weekend.
“We would be happy for us to take the momentum we have into the group stages of the Champions League. It will be good for us because when we won the Champions League in 2016 we won it from the momentum we got from winning the PSL,” Kekana tells KickOff.com.
Kekana lauded his teammates for the effort they’ve given in the league, despite playing many games.
“We’ve had a long season with all the games we have played. Remember we did not have a pre-season and I am happy that we won the league and we did it with the many games we played.”
