The 2016 CAF Champions League winners host the eight-time champions at Lucas Moripe Moripe Stadium on Saturday (15h00), determined to get their first ever victory over the Egyptian giants. These two clubs have met on two occasions in the past, in 2001 and 2007, and Ahly have come out tops both times.
Mosimane was full of praise for Ahly, who make transfers in the region of $6 million, an amount Sundowns have not received even for players they sold to European clubs.
"It's a big club, a very very big club. It's bigger than Wydad. If you thought Wydad is big...it's bigger than Esperance. It's huge, team of the century. They make transfers of $6 million, can you believe that in Africa? We sell players for less than that to Europe. They got Ramadan Sobhi from the English Premier League [Huddersfield], they brought him back. I mean how much do they need to pay?" Mosimane asked as he praised their visitors who are expected to arrive in South Africa today.
"They are the biggest team on the continent. Just look at the badge, just look at the stars. Then you realise that we are small boys, we have not done nothing. But it's okay, we need to try more on the continent and raise the flag. Pirates led us and gave the country two positions in the Champions League and two positions in the Confederation Cup. We took over from them and now we are giving them a chance to play in the Champions League without winning the league [domestic] league. So we are helping each other, that's how it must be."
