Kotei set for shock next move?

CAF Champions League

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder James Kotei could make a shock next move after being released by Slavia Mozyr in Belarus.

Kotei has endured a nightmare 12 months since leaving Simba Sports Club on a free transfer on the back of consecutive Tanzania Premier League titles.

The tenacious midfielder, who also played an integral role in their run towards the 2018/19 CAF Champions League quarter-finals, opted for a move to the Absa Premiership upon the expiry of his contract.

But after his arrival was setback by injury issues, Kotei failed to make a single appearance for Chiefs before the club released him in January, just six months into his three-year contract.

A move to Slavia Mozyr soon followed but the club confirmed on Friday that his contract was terminated by mutual consent without him registering a single competitive appearance.

KickOff.com understands that Kotei has now opened talks with Young Africans SC, the fierce city rivals of Simba, in what would be a controversial move for the Ghanaian who was a popular figure amongst the Wekundu wa Msimbazi faithful.

However, it's unlikely that he can be registered for the remainder of the Tanzanian top-flight season, having already been on the books of two different clubs during the 2019/20 campaign.

With eight rounds of fixtures remaining in the Vodacom Premier League, third-placed Yanga trail league leaders Simba by 19 points.
