Former Al Ahly playmaker Mido Gaber may have been kidnapped ahead of the new season, his new club Ceramica Cleopatra has confirmed.
Ceramica Cleopatra have been rocked by the recent events this week as one of their marquee arrivals went missing from the team hotel as they prepared for a closed training camp for pre-season.
In what will be their first season ever in the Egyptian top-flight, Ceramica are dealing with their tenth summer signing 'disappearing' which has been reported to authorities as a kidnapping.
The club's director of football Moataz El-Batawy explained this week how the shocking events transpired which has left several unanswered questions.
"We were going into training today in the closed camp, which we started in one of the hotels at the Fifth Settlement in Cairo," he said on Wednesday, as per KingFut.
"Mido was surprised that the card for his room did not work, and a worker went to activate the card. We were surprised that the receptionist asked the player himself to bring the card, which was not normal.
"Two people had asked to take photos with the player then he left the hotel with them and since then, Gaber’s phone has been switched off, but all of his belongings are still in the hotel. We don't know if he was kidnapped so we filed a police report."
The 28-year-old scored 18 goals and registered 17 assists in 93 games in the Egyptian top-flight for the Red Devils, Misr Lel Makkasa and Al Aluminium SC respectively.
