Cavin: Downs inspiring Dikwena in CAF

Stars defeated Vipers SC 3-1 at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday to advance 3-2 on aggregate to the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Sundowns also beat Ugandan opposition 3-2 on aggregate yesterday as they saw off Kampala City Council Authority in the start of their Champions League title defence.

Johnson hopes Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United can also do well in their respective CAF engagements today.

“Sundowns have done well in CAF and we are learning from them,” Johnson tells

“I am happy for Pitso [Downs coach Mosimane]. He has been there, done that and won the competition in Africa. I hope both SuperSport and Wits also do well in their CAF games today.”

Johnson hailed his players' character following their victory against Vipers in Rustenburg.

“I am happy with the way my players have been pushing. Yesterday they showed great character and attitude which I hope will continue throughout the journey.

“We are taking each game one at a time. We can't celebrate now but only when we are at the final.”

Goalkeeper Mbongeni Mzimela slotted two penalties against Vipers, with Johnson insisting he is the best at spot-kicks at the club.

“He always take penalties even at training. At the moment there is no one who takes better penalties than him.”
