Laffor relieved to end goal drought

Laffor has revelled in his goal in the Nedbank Cup clash against third-tier side Mariveni United on Monday – his first since November last year, when he scored his first Absa Premiership goal in the Brazilians' 5-0 thumping of Highlands Park.

Prior to that, the Liberia international only managed one other goal in their MTN8 semifinal second leg against Chippa United, but he feels he can breathe easier after finally breaking his goalless spell.

"I've been looking forward to scoring a goal for Sundowns, it's been a long time. Thank God I got my first goal [against Mariveni] after a long time," Laffor said.

"The most important thing is I need to keep my feet on the ground, keep on working for the team because it's important. The season is still long and we're also in the Champions League, so there's still a long way to go."

The reigning African club champions will begin the defence of their title with a Round of 16 clash against Ugandan outfit Kampala Capital City Authority on Friday evening at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.

Laffor faced the Kasasiro Boys in the Champions League while at previous club SuperSport United, when they lost 3-2 on aggregate back in the 2009 edition, and has warned his teammates of the threat of the Ugandans.

"it's not going to be easy against the guys from Uganda... I had an oppotunity to play against them when I was playing for SuperSport and they took us out of the competition," he warned.

"They are a very good side. We need to listen to what our coaches want us to do, keep our feet on the ground and then we see what happens."

The 32-year-old experienced attacker, who recently penned a two-year contract extension at Chloorkop, has emphasised the need to take a good aggregate lead into the second leg at the Lugogo Stadium in Kampala next weekend.

"[Tonight] we also need to score goals because going to Kampala is going to be difficult. So if we want to remain in this competition it's going to start now and we need to score goals," he concluded.
