Hertha Berlin 3-2 Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund lost ground on the Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich after going down 3-2 to Hertha Berlin on Saturday evening.
It was a perfect start for Dortmund as Julian Brandt bagged the opener, but Ishak Belfodil and a double from Marco Ritcher took the winds of their sails.
A glimmer of hope appeared for the Black and Yellow late on through substitute Steffen Tigges, but it wasn’t to be as the evening belonged to Hertha.
TSG Hoffenheim 1-1 Borussia Monchengladbach
TSG Hoffenheim needed to come from behind again for the second time this week to see out a 1-1 draw against Borussia Monchengladbach this time around.
Hoffenheim got out of jail in midweek after late strikes forced a stalemate against Bayer Leverkusen, whereas Gladbach came unstuck against Eintracht Frankfurt.
The visitors led for large periods through Breel Embolo’s early strike before Hoffenheim rose at the death to rescue a point courtesy of Kevin Akpoguma.
RB Leipzig 0-2 Arminia Bielefeld
RB Leipzig experienced a shock 2-0 loss against the relegation-threatened Arminia Bielefeld, who played the remainder of the match at the Red Bull Arena with ten players.
A draw at FC Augsburg prevented Leipzig sixth spot in midweek, whereas Arminia registered a victory over VfL Bochum.
With the first half goalless, Arminia seized control thereafter through Janni Serra and Masaya Okugawa whilst Fabian Klos got his marching orders.
Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 Mainz 05
Eintracht Frankfurt grabbed a third consecutive victory courtesy of a slender 1-0 win over Mainz 05 at the Deutsche Bank Park to head into fifth spot.
Jesper Lindstrom got the winning effort in the first half that capped off a perfect week for the host who edged Borussia Monchengladbach days prior, while Mainz’ inconsistent spell continued.
Greuther Furth 0-0 FC Augsburg
Greuther Furth couldn’t overturn their disappointing loss to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday as a goalless draw against FC Augsburg materialised.
The stalemate has done nothing to elevate Furth from the bottom of the table, with Augsburg just four spots adrift the relegation-haunted outfit.
VfL Bochum 0-1 FC Union Berlin
VfL Bochum suffered another loss in the space of a week after going down 1-0 to FC Union Berlin to end their year on a sour note.
The host haven’t won in their last three matches, while Union stuttered to a goalless draw against SC Freiburg in midweek.
Although an early finish from Max Kruse on this occasion happened to be enough to steer the visitors over the line.
