Ghana star to miss Bafana clash

Ghana will reportedly be without the services of Thomas Partey against South Africa after failing to secure his release from Arsenal.

Partey missed the Gunners' 1-0 win over Watford before the international break after picking up a groin injury.

The 28-year-old scored in back-to-back World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe, but played no part in the 1-1 draw with Ethiopia at Orlando Stadium this week.

The Black Stars were hoping to get him ready for Sunday night's clash in Cape Coast, but Ghanasoccernet have reported that attempts to get Arsenal to release the player have failed.

The Ghanaian publication reported the Ghanaian Football Association and Arsenal have been in communication since Tuesday, with the midfielder keen featuring for his country in the qualifiers.

However, the Gunners informed the GFA on Saturday that the 28-year-old will not join up with his Black Stars teammates as they don't want the star to aggravate the injury.

Ghana have won both of the home matches in the World Cup qualifiers so far and will need to get maximum points once again if they hope to progress to the play-off round.
