Ex-Downs forward on Messi comparison

African Football

Former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Luis Miquissone has addressed comparisons between himself and Lionel Messi.

Miquissone, 25, has developed into one of Africa's leading forwards since joining Simba SC from Masandawana last year and has thrived in both the domestic and continental competitions for the Tanzanian giants this season.

The Mozambique international's impressive form, which has seen him linked with a return to the PSL, has not gone unnoticed and has resulted in sections of Simba's fanbase comparing the pacy winger to Argentina star Messi.

Miquissone has since played down the comparisons between himself and the six-time Ballon d'Or winner but admitted that it was an honour to be likened to a player of Messi's calibre.

"People can think a lot about who you are but I know I am Luis Miquissone and I play my kind of football," Miquissone told Azam TV.

"But again, in football, people like comparing and if they say I am like Messi then I am proud because he is a good and top player. I get encouragement when I am compared to a big player and that means I get a lot of energy to work even better.

"I have to work hard and put myself up there where I can score goals and play well too and then I think my name will be among the greats."
