Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly maintained their perfect start to the Egyptian Premier League season with a 5-3 victory over Zamalek SC in the Cairo derby on Friday evening.
The White Knights tackled Ahly for the first time since clinching the title last season, with Percy Tau and Mohamed Sherif leading the line for the Red Devils.
It was the African champions who drew first blood 16 minutes in as a shot from Aliou Dieng deflected off the woodwork and Abou Gabal before nestling the net.
A second goal followed two minutes apart after marauding full-back Ali Maaloul netted in from the penalty spot following an indiscretion in the six-yard area by the White Knights.
Zamalek were further cut into pieces midway in when an explicit ball into space by Amr El-Sulaya coincided with an equally delightful finish from Mohamed Sherif.
Patrice Cateron wasted no time with fresh faces from the bench at the start of the second half, as Emam Ashour made way for Mostafa Fathi.

The change went on to make the desired effect as Fathi went on to reduce the advantage in pure style with a fantastic top corner finish.
Zamalek's joy lasted a few minutes this as Dieng restored the Cairo Red Devils lead through a brilliant curling finish that gave goalkeeper Gabal no chance.
Ahly added a fifth goal at the midway point of the second half when a coming-together in the area led to a penalty which Maaloul converted after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) ordered a retake.
The home outfit got on the score-sheet again this time from the penalty-spot through Zizo following a foul, whilst Tau made way for Luis Miquissone on the path of Ahly for the final stages of the half.
Zamalek hinted a miraculous turnaround late in added time after Achraf Bencharki finished off a ball from Seifeddine Jaziri, but Ahly emerged victorious nonetheless.
