The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has confirmed its four teams that are set to compete in the upcoming CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup tournaments.
CAF had given the EFA a deadline to confirm the four teams that will compete at the continental competitions, with the fourth team yet to be confirmed as late as Tuesday ahead of the due date.
Egyptian giants Al Ahly, coached by South Africa's Pitso Mosimane, and Zamalek have qualified for the Champions League, while Al Masry clinched the first available spot of the Confederation Cup as they finished third on the Egyptian Premier League table.
However, the hold-up came when three clubs – Ittihad of Alexandria, Smouha and Pyramids FC – had to play their games in order to decide who would take the fourth spot.
The EFA had to wait as Pyramids managed to secure a 1-1 draw with El Gaish on Sunday.
Smouha and Ittihad of Alexandria then failed to finish ahead of Pyramids as they drew and lost their respective games on Monday and Tuesday, which confirmed Pyramids' fourth-place finish and a place at the next edition of the CAF Confederation Cup.
