Pitso Mosimane has secured another trophy at Al Ahly after his charges claimed a 2-0 win over RS Berkane to clinch the CAF Super Cup on Friday evening.
Tarek Mohamed set out Ahly’s changes from the clash with Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League as Mohamed Magdy Afsha and Amr El Suleya featured too.
Ahly were fresh from advancing to the semi-finals of the Champions League following a 3-1 aggregate win over Sundowns last Saturday.
Berkane, who are the current holders of the CAF Confederation Cup, could’ve gone ahead before the half-hour mark from a one-on-one by Mohamed Farhan but he found the side-netting.
The Cairo Red Devils started the second half with a double substitution in Ali Maaloul for Ayman Ashraf and Rami Rabia installed ahead of Yasser Ibrahim.
This proved the perfect masterstroke from Mosimane as on 57 minutes, Mohamed Sherif unleashed a thumping strike to open the deadlock as Berkane battled to gather control at the back.
Another key change from the substitution bench came from Mosimane following the midway stage of the second half, with Salah Mohsen introduced in favour of Hussein El-Shahat.
It worked out in the end after Mohsen dribbled past goalkeeper Zouhair Laaroubi with eight minutes remaining to send a through pass from Taher into the back of the net.
Ahly were then able to see out the remaining few minutes of the match to not only confirm the win but also land the Super Cup title.
