Al Ahly star Mohamed Sherif has revealed the players were desperate to win the CAF Champions League in order to return to the FIFA Cub World Cup.
Sherif bagged a goal and two assists as the Red Devils defeated 10-man Kaizer Chiesf 3-0 in the final on Saturday evening in Casablanca.
The 25-year-old's solitary goal on the night ensured he walked away with the Golden Boot award with six goals in the tournament.
The Egyptian giants have now bagged a 10th Champions League crown and will now return to the FIFA Club World Cup.
“All the players pledged on winning the CAF Champions League title, after participating in the previous FIFA Club World Cup in order to return once again to the tournament," Sherif said, as per the club's official website.
“The final was very difficult, but we were determined to win the title to please our fans.”
The Red Devils finished third at the previous Club World Cup after losing 2-0 to eventual winners Bayern Munich in the semi-final back in February.
As for now, Al Ahly will look to close the gap on Egyptian Premier League leaders Zamalek, who sit 10 points clear but have played four more matches.
