Sudan heap pressure on Bafana Bafana


Sudan have heaped the pressure on Bafana Bafana's hopes of qualifying for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations after recording a 2-0 Group C win over Sao Tome & Principe.

Sudan moved level with South Africa and Ghana, who face each other on Thursday afternoon, in the AFCON qualifying Group C standings after recording a comfortable 2-0 win over minnows Sao Time & Principe on Wednesday.

Mohamed Abdelrahman, who netted the winner in Sudan's famous win over the Black Stars in November, gave his side the lead in the 26th minute before Saif Malik's second-half goal secured all three points to set up a thrilling encounter against Bafana Bafana next week.

Uganda 0-0 Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso secured their spot at the 2021 AFCON after playing out a goalless draw against Uganda, who will now face Malawi in the final round of fixtures to determine which nation will progress to the showpiece tournament.

South Sudan 0-1 Malawi

Malawi kept their qualification hopes alive after securing a narrow 1-0 win over South Sudan, courtesy of Richard Mbulu's 47th-minute goal. The Malawians are now just one point behind Uganda in the Group B standings and must win in their clash next week in order to progress.

Rwanda 1-0 Mozambique

Elsewhere, a solitary goal from Lague Byiringiro helped Rwanda record their first win of the qualification campaign and earn a surprise 1-0 victory over Mozambique - a result which has seen the nation climb into second place in the Group F standings behind Cameroon.

Ethiopia 4-0 Madagascar

Ethiopia boosted their hopes of qualifying for next year's AFCON after recording a resounding 4-0 win over Group K rivals Madagascar. Three first-half goals from Amanuel Gebremichael, Getaneh Kebede and  Abubeker Nesru put the home side in a commanding position before Shemeles Bekele put the game beyond any doubt with five minutes remaining on the clock.

Guinea 1-0 Mali

Guinea have qualified for the African Cup of Nations with a 1-0 win over Mali on Wednesday evening. Seydouba Soumah got the game's only goal to secure his side's ticket to next year's tournament.
