Ex-Arsenal man wins big AFCON award

Algeria midfielder Ismaël Bennacer, who was once on the books of Arsenal, has been announced as the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Player of the Tournament following Algeria's triumph on Friday.

The Desert Foxes claimed their second-ever Afcon title on Friday evening after defeating Senegal 1-0 in the final at the Cairo International Stadium.

While Riyad Mahrez ended the tournament with three goals, including the impressive winner against Nigeria in the semi-final, it was Bennacer who was named the Player Of the Tournament.
 
The former Arsenal midfielder featured in seven games for the Algerians and registered three assists en route to claiming the title.
 
 
 
Nigeria striker Odion Ighalo finished as the tournament's top scorer with five goals, two ahead of Mahrez and Mane.
