Senegal left it late to open Group B with a 1-0 triumph over Zimbabwe at the Stade Omnisports de Bafoussam on Monday afternoon.
The Lions of Teranga were dealt a blow as goalkeeper Eduoard Mendy and Kalid Koulibaly were among nine players to test positive for Covid-19 before the clash.
With the game seemingly headed for a draw, Senegal were awarded a penalty in second-half stoppage time which allowed captain Sadio Mane to rifle home from 12 yards out to secure maximum points.
Morocco 1-0 Ghana
Morocco struck late in the second half to secure a 1-0 win over Ghana in their Africa Cup of Nations Group C opener on Monday evening.
The Moroccans were on the winning side when these met in an international friendly last year, although the Black Stars defeated their North African counter-parts at the 2019 tournament in Group A.
There was not to be no repeat for Ghana, as Soufiane Boufal got the winning goal for Morocco with seven minutes left on the clock.
Guinea 1-0 Malawi
Guinea got their Group B campaign off to a winning start after defeating Malawi 1-0 at Stade Omnisports de Bafoussam.
Malawi could only name four players on the bench after nine players tested positive, including talisman Gabadinho Mhango.
Guinea got the opening goal in the 35th minute after Jose Kante set up Idrissa Sylla to fire home from close range.
Comoros 0-1 Gabon
Comoros' first-ever Africa Cup of Nations encounter ended in a 1-0 defeat to Gabon on Monday night.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mario Lemina were not in action for Gabon after testing positive for Covid-19 over the weekend.
However, Aaron Boupendza was the hero on the night as his first-half strike secured the spoils for Patrice Neveu's charges.
