The 32-year-old, whose contract with Matsatsantsa expires at the end of June, is pushing for a move away from the club during the current transfer window after making only 11 appearances in all competitions this season.
Phala has attracted interest from Pirates and is also reportedly on the radar of Bidvest Wits and Highlands Park. According to a source close to the player, talks are ongoing over his future.
"Ja, the boy is still waiting because [agent] Tim [Sukazi] is still weighing the options," the source says.
"As you know when a team loans you out, they must agree that they are going to carry your salary. Or they agree to pay half and half you see. That is something they are still discussing at the moment.
"It's either he goes on loan ... it seems it's what SuperSport wants. You must understand that when he gets out of a contract and goes somewhere ... remember he is left with six months at SuperSport. Now when he leaves on loan and goes somewhere, they want to make an extension of not just taking him on a loan, they [Pirates] sign him even for a coming year. That's how the negotiations are at the moment."
