The shock death of Marc Batchelor has prompted this Throwback Thursday in honour of the former Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Moroka Swallows player.
Batchelor is the only player to have played for then Soweto’s ‘big three’ in Pirates, Chiefs and Swallows, but even holds the record for having turned out for a fourth PSL giant in Sundowns.
The 49-year-old was brutally gunned down outside his home in Randburg earlier this week, and KickOff.com decided to put together a gallery to reflect back on the good times he enjoyed in the colours of his former clubs.
Arguably his most famous moment was being part of the first South African side to have won the CAF Champions' League – then known as the African Cup of Champions – with The Buccaneers in 1995.
He then moved across to arch-rivals Amakhosi, before later joining The Brazilians and The Dube Birds, before hanging up his boots.
Batchelor also worked as an analyst at SuperSport before a brief stint as assistant coach of now defunct Mpumalanga Black Aces alongside Mark Harrison in 2011,
