Stars miss out on top eight

Dino Ndlovu scored in the fourth minute of added time to cancel out Moeketsi Sekola's goal and Lehlohonolo Nonyane's own-goal, adding to Roger Da Costa's 64th-minute effort.

Aces end the season in 10th spot and survive the dreaded relegation zone, while Stars finish in a respectable ninth position. A win and they would have still missed out on the top eight on goal-difference to Maritzburg United, who beat AmaZulu 2-1 in their final game.

A poor first half saw little in the way of opportunities at either end, but it was Stars who looked the more likely to make something happen.

Level at the break, Stars finally broke the deadlock and were rewarded for their stunning effort during the opening 45.

Sekola pounced on a loose ball and slotted his 14th League goal of the campaign, sending him into the outright lead for the Golden Boot award.

But Stars' celebrations were cut short thanks to Da Costa's equaliser some 12 minutes later.

The burly defender bounded forward after the hour mark and stroked home in front of a disappointed home crowd who thought the result was secure.

But they were soon back in front when Hendrik Somaeb's free-kick was turned into his own net by Nonyane, giving Stars a glimmer of hope for the illusive top-eight spot, but it just wasn't to be.

Ndlovu scored a last-minute stunner to wrap up a point for each, sending the home crowd home without maximum points.
