Last time Usuthu were relegated it was in the 2014/15 season after a 2-1 loss to Maritzburg United at Moses Mabhida Stadium, when a win or draw would have saved them.
This time the shoe is on the other foot, and Vilakazi says there won't be any favours in the KwaZulu-Natal derby.
"We know they are in a tough situation, unfortunately we also need results especially coming from a very tough loss [against Orlando Pirates] so we want to get maximum points," Vilakazi tells KickOff.com.
Vilakazi, who has also played for Maritzburg, knows it won't be easy to face them at home and is aware of the improvement they have shown under Eric Tinkler.
"Under the new coach they are really playing well with exciting players, it won't be easy especially as they are fighting for relegation, but we are ready for them," he adds.
"We also have players who can face any attack. Derby games are not easy and there are no favourites. This one will be even tougher, there's more at stake."
AmaZulu are looking to finish in the top eight while the Team of Choice are bottom of the Absa Premiership log, six points from safety, and desperately need a win.
