Both Deolin Mekoa and Fortune Makaringe, who have been fantastic for the Team of Choice this season, received their fourth bookings against Bloemfontein Celtic in the Nedbank Cup at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday, and will therefore serve a one match suspension.
Mekoa has scored three goals in 28 appearances this season, while Makaringe has played in 29 matches. Their absence will be felt, especially against a well rested Wits side.
Maritzburg will also be without big defender Brian Onyango, who is likely to be out for the rest of the season after he underwent surgery on his knee, while Kaizer Chiefs’ on loan midfielder William Twala is another who is out with a foot injury.
Maritzburg, however, will be boosted by the return of captain Bevan Fransman and right back Pogiso Sanoka, who were suspended on Saturday.
''Of course not having those players [Mekoa and Makaringe] gives us questions,'' Davids said.
''One player goes in, another player comes out. We trust everybody and that is why we have a small squad. We trust every member of the squad to be able to come and do the job.''
A win for Maritzburg will see them achieving the highest points tally ever in a season. They are currently on 38 points, just two behind the 40 they managed under Steve Komphela in 2014/15.
Davids, however, is not thinking about records.
''We are taking it one game at the time and I don't want to look at the records,'' he said.
''We have a young squad and the focus is on the next game and your energy into it and try get the result and see what happens.
"We must not forget that we are facing champions. It will be a really tough game for us.''
Kickoff at Bidvest Stadium is at 19h30.
