Maritzburg United coach Eric Tinkler has lost two key members of his squad to Orlando Pirates but has backed a former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder to come to the fore.
Mariztburg recently cashed in on Fortune Makaringe and Siphesihle Ndlovu as they joined Pirates, potentially leaving a massive void in their midfield for the 2019/20 season.
Makaringe and Ndlovu respectively managed 34 and 32 appearances across all competitions last term, and Tinkler will be tasked with propping that gap as early as possible.
While Phumlani Ntshangase’s arrival from Bidvest Wits comes as a solid option, also returning from a lengthy injury lay-off is Keagan Buchanan, whom Tinkler has faith will rise to expectations.
“Keagan is back. He’s a very good ball player and a good box-to-box midfielder. So that’s what we hope he will provide for us,” Tinkler told KickOff.com.
“But he’s been down [since his knee surgery last year] for quite a while, so it’s about getting him fit again.
“There’s also going to be that fear [of getting injured again], and he has to overcome the psychological thing.
“I think Keagan’s got a strong-willed character though, so I think he’ll be fine.”
