Bunting played for Amakhosi’s MultiChoice Diski Challenge team, but was sent out on loan to try get more action and experience in the PSL.
However, since making the move to the Lions of the North, Bunting has made played just one minute of football in the top-flight.
“He was rather unfortunate with injuries and then he was hospitalised with a throat infection for a couple of weeks. Then he also had to go write his exams, so we had to give him time off,” Da Gama explains to KickOff.com.
“For a team that’s fresh in the PSL it’s difficult, because we have to try keep the momentum going, but we can’t be selfish and not allow him to go write his exams. We can’t be selfish and not give him time to study. We can’t be selfish and force him to play with injuries.
“He’s been unfortunate, even if you go back to Chiefs. He’s had a lot of injuries. We have been trying to build and get him as strong as possible, without being scared that we are building him for Chiefs. We have to do the right thing for the boy.”
Da Gama said he could travel with the player to Cape Town for the Nedbank Cup last 16 clash against Cape Town City on Friday night (20h00).
“He scored a goal in a friendly and he scored two in the MDC recently and another great one in training, so he is slowly getting there. There’s a strong possibility he is going to Cape Town. His pace is just something to behold. We play with a lot of pace and he is slowly understanding how we play.”
