Gordinho on captain's committee inclusion

Gordinho – who is still just 21 – is the youngest and only inexperienced player in that committee that also has seasoned campaigners Siboniso Gaxa, Willard Katsande, Morgan Gould, Tsepo Masilela and Reneilwe Letsholonyane joining hands with new skipper Siphiwe Tshabalala.

“I believe I am in that committee because I always work hard and I know the values of the club as I have been here for four years now, Gordinho says.

I know the team very well so I believe I can guide the other players that come in regardless of whether they are older or younger than me. I also want to learn from the older captains and model myself in that role.

I have always had this hard work ethic and I just want to set an example for the younger players and just do what I have been doing. What got me this far is my hard work and I just need to keep on doing that.”

Gordinho also expressed his desire of finally playing regularly this season despite the signing of two more established central defenders Siyanda Xulu and Daniel Cardoso.

Gordinho is into his fourth year in the Chiefs first team but only has five starts to show for his time at Naturena.

“I have a huge desire in that regard [to establish himself as a regular] and I have been working really very hard this pre-season and playing to the best of my ability. I just want to contribute in the team and make sure that we are winning,” he says.

Gordinho insists he wants to give Steve Komphela a headache with regards to deciding who will take the two central defence slots available amongst him, Xulu, Cardoso, Mulomowandau Mathoho, Gould and Ivan Bukenya.

“Obviously with Chiefs being as big a club as they are there will always going to be players coming in and out with nothing like having 18 players for three years.

I think that I just need to look at myself, look at them and see our differences and then bring whatever I can bring to the table and then they will do the same.

At the end of the day it is up to the coach. It is for us to give him a headache in deciding who is going to play on match day,” says Gordinho.
