Shakes Mashaba set for coaching return

According to a source, Mashaba is in advanced talks to take over the reins at relegation-threatened Witbank Spurs.

"Shakes Mashaba is set to take over as the new coach for Spurs in the new year," says the source.

"Negotiations between the two parties over a new deal are now at an advanced stage."

Mashaba was sacked by SAFA two years ago for insubordination, with Stuart Baxter replacing him in the national team hotseat.

Shakes has kept himself busy by scouting players for the Nedbank Keyona Team initiative along with former Golden Arrows and Tembisa Classic coach Khabo Zondo.

Spurs chairman Themba Mafu took control of the side in November following the sacking of interim coach Vusi Mkhatshwa, who initially replaced Zimbabwean mentor Rahman Gumbo.

Siyavutha are bottom of the table with 12 points from 15 games, and will resume their campaign against fellow strugglers Cape Umoya United at home on Saturday (15h30).
