KickOff.com broke news an hour ago that Celtic had approached the German to replace Clinton Larsen, who resigned on Monday in the wake of the 4-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Maritzburg claimed no knowledge of Middendorp’s proposed move to the Free State, but now a press release has confirmed the latest development.
“Ernst Middendorp has resigned from Maritzburg United Football Club. His agent Steven Kapeluschnik confirmed that after spending all together nearly three-and-a-half years at the club and being in charge of the team for approximately 100 games, he has decided that it is time for him to move on and look for new challenges in his career.
Middendorp said: “I would like to thank the Players, management and staff at Maritzburg United. I have enjoyed my time with the club and I wish them all the best in the future.”
