Former Orlando Pirates defender Thabo Matlaba has revealed one of the things he is looking forward to most when he starts the new season with Black Leopards.
During his time at Pirates Matlaba was used to playing in front of big crowds, especially in the Soweto Derby, and that’s not going to change much due to the fact that Lidoda Duvha supporters always come out in their numbers at Thohoyandou Stadium, whether it’s a match during the week or over the weekend.
Matlaba will get his first taste of life at Thohoyandou Stadium when Leopards take on Limpopo rivals Polokwane City in their first Absa Premiership match of the season on August 3.
The 32-year-old admits that there will be a lot of pressure for the side to deliver, following the acquisitions of some big name players, such as himself, Thuso Phala and Mogakolodi Ngele.
“The crowd is the one that pushes the team to do well, but the team did not have a right record away from home last season which is something we need to fix. But I’m looking forward to playing in front of the crowd at Thohoyandou because those people support the team.
They are expecting a lot after the team made some big signings, they expect us to deliver. So there’s no time to sleep, there’s no time to rest. We need to deliver, we need to work hard.
