Magqwaka takes Ajax to PSL DRC

The matter has been set down for hearing on 4 December 2014 at the League's Dispute Resolution Chamber offices in Parktown, Johannesburg.

Magqwaka’s charges to the DRC follows a longstanding battle involving him, his agent Jongilizwe Mthethwa and the club, and culminating with the player’s formal suspension from the club today.

As a result of the suspension the club has indicated that it will refuse to release the player to represent Bafana Bafana in the upcoming Nelson Mandela Challenge fixture against Ivory Coast.

Despite not featuring for his club this season, Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has included Magqwaka in his 23-man squad for the friendly which will take place on Sunday, 30 November at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. Magwaka was also selected for the previous African Nations Cup qualifiers against Sudan and Nigeria.

Magqwaka and his agent are represented by Johannesburg sports law attorney Theo Mapheto, who said: “I have urgent instructions to ensure that this protracted dispute is brought to a halt.

“It cannot be in the interests of justice that a player of my client’s potential is subjected to endless abuse and heavy-handedness. He is young and must be protected. Justice must prevail.

“We intend to impress upon the PSL to set an example by protecting the interests of the player.”
