Thanda chairman Pierre Delvaux already revealed to this website earlier this month that the club would consider selling their top-flight status after clinching promotion from the NFD.
And now, according to Sokhela, both clubs have reached an agreement, in principle, but that they will now wait for the PSL to give the deal the green light.
"That's a bit difficult to comment on,” Sokhela tells KickOff.com.
"But I can confirm there was a discussion between the two clubs [AmaZulu and TRZ], and now we are waiting to see what it is that the [PSL] executive will say."
Pressed further by this website if he meant it was a done deal between the two clubs, Sokhela said: "We can say so."
This is by no means the first time AmaZulu have attempted to buy back their top-flight status, having approached Mpumalanga Black Aces over a deal in 2015, only for the PSL to reject the application.
